Eurostar cancels Amsterdam services after fire causes major disruption
Eurostar has cancelled services between London and Amsterdam for several days after a fire near Rotterdam Centraal station triggered a major power failure, causing widespread disruption across the Dutch rail network.
The latest update on the Eurostar website says: “Due to fire damage to the railway near Rotterdam, we’re unable to run direct trains between the UK and the Netherlands up to and including 2 July 2026. Unfortunately, it means that Amsterdam and Rotterdam stops have been cancelled and trains on this route are running between London and Brussels only.
“A small number of trains will run between France/Belgium and Amsterdam. However, none of them will stop at Schiphol or Rotterdam. As these trains need to take an alternative route around the damaged area, journey times will be significantly longer, and seat availability is reduced.”
In an earlier statement, on 30 June, the operator said: “This situation will continue until 3 July 2026. We recommend that you do not attempt to travel to or from the Netherlands until 3 July. Instead, please cancel your journey or postpone it to a later date.”
Other international trains are affected, with services running between the Netherlands, Brussels and Paris being diverted via Utrecht, resulting in delays of up to an hour.
The power failure has also impacted domestic rail services in and around Rotterdam, with local media reporting that electricity is not expected to be restored in the area until the evening of 2 July.
Passengers whose journeys have been cancelled can move their Eurostar booking to a later date, cancel and receive an e-voucher valid for 12 months, or claim a full cash refund. Customers have up to three months from their original departure date to submit a claim.
The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated its advice for the Netherlands to say: “Eurostar services between the UK and the Netherlands are severely disrupted following a fire near Rotterdam Central station.
“Eurostar has advised passengers not to attempt to travel to, or from, the Netherlands on the Eurostar until 3 July 2026.
