Ryanair introduces new 60-minute baggage drop deadline
Ryanair introduces new 60-minute baggage drop deadline
Ryanair: earlier bag drop deadline from 10 November
What is changing
From 10 November, Ryanair passengers who check in a bag must drop it at least 60 minutes before departure. The current cut-off is 40 minutes. The change applies at all of Ryanair’s departure airports.
Why
Ryanair says around one in five of its passengers check in a bag. It wants to give them more time to get through security and passport control and reach the gate before boarding starts, particularly at busy times when queues are longer.
Who is affected
Only passengers with hold luggage. Ryanair says the other 80% of passengers, who check in online and travel with cabin bags only, are not affected.
What it means for travellers
- Check your bag in at least an hour before departure, and treat that as the latest time rather than the target.
- Bag drop desks close at the 60-minute point, so arriving later could mean missing your flight.
- If you travel with hold luggage, aim to reach the airport well ahead of this, especially during school holidays and at weekends.
- If you can manage with a cabin bag, you avoid the deadline altogether, but check Ryanair’s current cabin bag size and weight rules first.
